At first, I studied History of Art, but above all, I studied Philosophy. However, rather than become a professor, I decided to change my life and I started to learn sculpture while working as a stonemason on historic buildings, first in Paris (Invalides) and after on “Chateaux de la Loire".
Then, at the age of 33, I set up a small Stonemason and Sculptor business which drove me to Art. In my choice, you can find a sort of mixed influence of Philosophy and Traditional Art with stone and marble. That is perhaps the reason why I prefer emptiness, natural light, translucent medium ( concepts ), with organic material inside, like wood, ham, silk (materials), in opposition to the heaviness and opacity of stone and marble.
Reading Silicones requests a degree of intervention left in a sovereign eventuality. It is to this degree that refers Becuwe when he sets in silicone structure pieces either of meat, or metal, or wood, or silk or finally of graphite which it puts sometimes in touch with some acid. Chemical technique is impressive. Colours and subjects interprenate in a disordered confusion effects of which no one can envisage. What is it to say ? Every fragment of the real return in unity. The instant is not fixed in eternity but the absolute seizure of a fragmentary reality, isolated in her pure and irreducible objective singularity, reveals the absolute of the real. It is perhaps for Becuwe the fruit of a synthetic intuition ; the movement of life is not immobilized by an outside description, but its shape is taken from inside according to its natural impulse, in the space of a very main instant when the artist will have succeeded in becoming identified completely with the considered object. Let us listen to Becuwe “Silicones works want to introduce, one is to decide to touch, to feel first of all. The invisible is the palpable here, I believe it ; the thrilling, I hope”.
